The BT-001 Deluxe automation system is a state-of-the art controller that provides full play and rewind vacuum motor control, end of song rewind and end of rewind shut off. Simple installation and ease of use make this the ideal choice for player piano automation.

Imagine putting a roll in, setting the transmission control lever to play, pushing a button and wallking away. The controller sets the player's vacuum volume to the user-adjustable play level. It then senses the end of the song and kicks the transmission into rewind. The vacuum level is automatically reduced to provide a proper rewind speed. At the end of the rewind, the motor is shut off and the piano is ready for another song.

Auto Rewind Woes

Perhaps the most difficult part of installing an auto rewind system is the locating and the mounting of the rather large rewind pneumatic. Finding the space to mount it and then routing the large diameter vacuum supply hose is often an engineering feat. The BT-001 utilizes a small (2 in long x 1 in wide) solenoid to pull the transmission into rewind. This solenoid comes with a universal mounting bracket that allows for mounting in a variety of ways. It can be mounted under the wind motor (typical with a Standard, Pratt-read, Simplex, HC Bay, Beckwith, etc player action) or under the keybed, where ever the play control linkage can easily be accessed.

We mounted the solenoid in five different pianos, and in each case the solenoid was installed in less than ten minutes. Try that with the old pnematically operated device! No more drilling a hole in the pumps to access a vacuum source, and no more moving of parts to fit in the huge pneumatic operator. The wires to the motor and to the solenoid are connectorized to allow for quick mounting of the all-in-one control box.

A cleaner way to Auto-shut off

For those that have ever installed a slap-switch type of auto shut off, You know how finnicky they can be. Getting them bent and adjusted just right can be difficult. One of the biggest complaints with them is that modifications to the spoolbox need to be made. Holes need to be cut for the button, and a hole for the slap vane itself.

The BT-001 uses a pneumatically sensed auto-shut off. The same sense that kicks it into rewind also tells it when to shut off. Nothing is added to the spoolbox! This is important to those that like authenticity and would rather not drill large holes in the spoolbox.
